Services

I have 25 years of experience working with different practices and creating amazing artwork for customers. I aim to understand the client's vision before making it a reality. It all starts with an idea.

Custom Paint Design

My full in-house design services range from freehand sketches and digital mockups using basic shapes, logo icons, logotypes, or calligraphy, to creating detailed and complex vector-based illustrations.

The final product that will be provided to the client is a durable vinyl cut decal, a cut-out design printed on vinyl that includes a transfer tape to apply, making it better suited for complex shapes and smooth surfaces.

Restoration

The restoration process is commonly undertaken for vintage, classic, or rare vehicles, but can also be applied to any vehicle that needs significant repair or refurbishment. The goal of restoration is typically to return the vehicle to its original aesthetic, mechanical, and functional state, or to make it more roadworthy, depending on the owner's preferences.

Key Steps in Vehicle Restoration:

  • evaluate the vehicle’s condition, the state of the damage, setting a budget and timeline
  • strip down the vehicle to its bare components, to be able to access areas that require repair
  • repair or replace rusty panels, re-align body parts, and smooth out any imperfections in the bodywork.
  • sand the vehicle’s surface to remove the old paint, smooth out imperfections, and create a proper base for the new paint. Any dents, scratches, or dings are filled and smoothed out using body filler and sandpaper
  • repaint the vehicle to restore its original look, using multiple layers of primer, paint, and clear coat to achieve a high-quality finish
  • the vehicle is now considered restored and it has been carefully reassembled and tested
  • final touches & detailing, polishing the exterior, and making sure all components, both mechanical and aesthetic, are in excellent condition.

Custom Paint Work

Custom vehicle painting is a 10-step process that enhances a vehicle's appearance through expert painting techniques. The aim is to achieve a flawless, durable finish that aligns with the owner's design preferences.

1. Planning & Design (Optional)

  • Concept Development: The first step is to discuss and develop the design with the client. It needs a design research phase to discover the client's favourite custom artwork, logos, calligraphy letters, illustrations etc.
  • Design Mockups: A hand-drawn sketch of the design is created, and a digital design follows using graphic design software (Figma). This helps the client visualize the final result and make any adjustments before starting.
  • Colour Selection: The colours for the artwork are chosen based on the client's preferences, the vehicle's colour, and the intended effect.
  • The design is handed off from the designer to the painter.

2. Preparation

  • Wash & Clean: Remove dirt, grease, and other contaminants.
  • Dismantling: Components like mirrors, trim, handles, windows, and lights are removed to prevent overspray and ensure a smooth finish.

3. Bodywork & Repair

  • Surface Inspection: The body is inspected for dents, scratches, rust, and other imperfections that must be repaired.
  • Sanding: The vehicle’s surface is sanded to remove the old paint, smooth out imperfections, and create a proper base for the new paint. Any dents, scratches, or dings are filled and smoothed out using body filler and sandpaper or DA (Dual action polisher).
  • Rust Removal: Rust spots are sanded and treated.

4. Priming

  • Applying Primer: Primer is applied to create a smooth, adhesive surface for the paint. Primer also helps to protect against rust and improves paint durability
  • Sanding the Primer: The primer dries and is sanded to a smooth finish, ensuring proper adhesion for the colour coat.

5. Paint Application

  • Base Coat: This is the first layer that is typically a base colour.
  • Layering: Multiple base colour coats are applied to achieve coverage and the desired depth of colour. Each layer has to fully dry before the next is applied to avoid runs or imperfections.

6. Clear Coat

  • Multiple Layers: A clear coat is applied to give the paint a glossy finish and protect it from scratches, UV damage, and environmental contaminants. It's often applied in several layers, with sanding in between.

7. Detailing and Custom Effects (Optional)

  • Custom Graphics: If the vehicle has custom designs, decals, or graphics, they are painted or applied after the base and clear coat processes are completed.
  • Airbrushing: Airbrushing or other special effects can be added to create unique designs or accents. This is part of another process, another service that derives from Custom Paint Design.
  • Candy or Pearl Finishes: For custom finishes, a candy or pearl layer can be added for extra depth and shimmer.

8. Polishing

  • Sanding the Clear Coat: Once the clear coat has dried, it may be lightly sanded to remove imperfections or orange peel texture.
  • Polishing: The entire surface is polished to a high gloss

9. Reassembly

  • Reinstalling Components: The vehicle's parts like trim, lights, and windows are carefully reinstalled.
  • Final Touches: Any final adjustments or touch-ups are made to ensure a perfect finish.
  • Drying Time: The paint is allowed to cure for several days to ensure a long-lasting finish.

10. Final Inspection

  • Quality Control: A detailed inspection is conducted to ensure the paint job is flawless, with no imperfections, runs, or chips.
  • Cleaning & Detailing: Any final detailing touches are added if needed to enhance its overall appearance.

Airbrushing

airbrush-helmetsAirbrush vehicle paint artwork is a creative and specialised technique that adds an artistic touch to a vehicle, whether it's for personal expression, branding, or artistic value.

The airbrush is a part of the Custom Paint Process and is used to apply intricate details, shading, and highlights based on the design previously approved by the client. This could include fine line work, patterns, gradients, artistic elements, calligraphic letters, text, logos, or tiny designs

Airbrushes provide precision and fine control for intricate details and shading that other painting methods can’t achieve.

Repairs & Paintwork Correction

repairs

This is for fixing damage (scratches, dents, chips), and restoring the paint finish to the original state.

It focuses on fixing imperfections and returning the vehicle to its original aesthetic, especially when it has been damaged, faded, or worn down over time.

Paintwork Correction follows a similar process to the Custom Paint Work one.
